Position in the Organisation:

Reporting to the co-CEOs, the volunteer Media and Communications Director works collaboratively with all members of the Leadership team to drive external engagement with Pint of Science Australia. Their direct reports include a Media Manager and a Communications Manager, who lead their respective teams.

Purpose of Role:

The Media & Communications Director leads public engagement with Pint of Science Australia through strategic influence and targeted communications to our target audience. The Director will be expected to develop a broad communications strategy for the festival, and work with the Leadership team to design and implement new ways of reaching the public throughout the off-season.

Major Responsibilities:

  1. Develop an evidence-based media and communications strategy for the Pint of Science Australia festival
  2. Lead a strategic, multi-channel, communications agenda to drive influence and engagement with Pint of Science Australia
  3. Lead a team to deliver on strategic goals for website and online engagement, media liaison, social media and mailing list campaigns, content development and publications

Key selection criteria:

  1. Highly effective written and verbal communication skills, including Impeccable copywriting and copy-editing abilities
  2. Strong leadership skills and ability to work effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders
  3. Data-driven and evidence-based approach to engaging with media and strategic communications
  4. Multi-channel engagement experience, including via social, and traditional, media outlets
  5. Supervision or team management experience
  6. Drive to make a difference!

Desired skills:

  1. Graphic design experience
  2. Science communication experience
  3. Experience with search engine marketing, Google Analytics, and Google AdWords
