Position in the Organisation:

Reporting to the Media and Communications Director, the Media Manager will drive external engagement with traditional media sources for Pint of Science Australia. In time, the Media Manager will recruit and lead a team of Media Officers to support them in increasing the impact of the Media portfolio.  

Purpose of Role:

The Media Manager facilitates engagement with traditional media outlets to disseminate information about the Pint of Science Australia festival, coordinate interviews with relevant scientists and volunteers, and identify new ways of making connections with journalists, reporters, and science communicators. The Media Manager will be expected to work under broad direction and develop a media engagement strategy for the festival as well as designing new ways of reaching the public throughout the off-season. To achieve this, the Media Manager will work collaboratively and effectively with the national Pint of Science team as well as reporters, journalists and media contacts. 

Major Responsibilities:

  1. Develop a media engagement strategy for the Pint of Science Australia festival and the off-peak season. 
  2. Increase media coverage of Pint of Science Australia science engagement activities.  
  3. Work collaboratively across the Media & Communications portfolio to amplify Pint of Science Australia’s success stories. 

Key selection criteria:

  1. Highly effective written and verbal communication skills. 
  2. Project management and coordination skills. 
  3. Confidence in contacting media and "cold calling". 
  4. Drive to make a difference! 

Desired skills:

  1. Science communication experience. 
  2. Supervision or team management experience.
